Our Story
Like most people I know there comes a time in our lives when we suddenly realize and say to ourselves “I wish I had known that when I was younger”. In recent years it seems I’ve said that phrase over and over to myself. In trying to eat better or “healthy” these days we’ve started paying closer attention to what’s in the food we’re eating. It seems the more we found out the more we started to understand why the world is so sick today. Along with a better understanding and knowledge of how GMO’s and Round Up are used in our food supply and the negative effects they have on our health has been an eye opener. Not only in eating better but a challenge in finding that better food to eat. With so much confusion with meat labels that read, "grass fed" "free-range" "organic" and on and on. It's hard to know what is best and what the labels mean. We've learned that when the government is involved with the labeling you have to look deeper. And doing so we've found that there's not much difference when you get down to it. The average piece of meat of any kind comes from an animal who has been confined in a small space and fed genetically modified grain much of their life. In addition, cows are given high amounts of hormones to increase their growth rates and hog & chickens are given antibiotics on a regular basis to keep them alive.
That’s why we decided we could do better and started growing our own food as much as possible. Starting with laying hens more than 5 years ago, who by the way produce a far superior egg than you buy and the grocery store. Then came goats, pigs and broiler chickens, turkeys and beef cows. Dairy cows are on the list and will be coming soon. Our animals are keep on pasture rotation, fed healthy natural “GMO Free” grains, loved and cared for with respect.
We’re not there yet but we are closing in on the day we will provide all the naturally pasture grown Non-GMO, antibiotic & hormone free chicken, eggs, pork, turkeys, beef and fish we need. Plus, garden fresh chemical free fruits and vegetables.
It is our desire to produce the large majority of the food we eat while simultaneously providing an option for our neighbors and friends to buy quality products that have been naturally grown and well taken care of, and oh have excellent taste.
So take the challenge to first, find out more about what's in the foods you are eating and second, buy local and experience real taste and freshness from a local farm.
